Today, we basically spent the whole day travelling around the island in the car, whilst making a few short stops along the way. It was the ultimate road trip!
We first stopped at the city of Candelaria, and went into some of the shops for a look around. The most prominent building in this municipality is the Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria, as well as the statues of the nine aboriginal kings – the Guanches – of Tenerife.

Next, we passed through the island’s capital city, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where we caught a glimpse of the Auditorio de Tenerife (which, to me, looked very similar to the Sydney Opera House, though on a smaller scale), and the Monument to the Fallen Angel.
From there, we visited the highest, steepest, and largest municipality of the island of Tenerife; La Orotava. Needless to say, we stopped for a few minutes at one of the vantage points to just take in the wonderful scenery, and snap a few pictures.
After, we made our way through Aguamansa, and continued along the TF-21 which led us all the way up to Teide National Park once again. This part of the TF-21 road, however, having much more greenery, ascending slowly until you’re well above cloud level. The view makes it seem as if you are standing on some fantasy land, floating in mid-air with the clouds below. It is simply breathtaking.
Following an hour’s ear-popping descent back down south, we returned home.
Later in the evening we went to a nearby restaurant called La Torre, where we had a pizza, accompanied by a delightful glass of wine.
